Ever wonder what the difference is between a responsible breeder, backyard breeder and a puppy mill?

Being a responsible breeder has much involved in their dogs, as well as their puppies.

Here's a quick video to help get you started:

If you're like me, you want to make sure your Golden baby is in the best health. To me, feeding them a good quality food is just the beginning. I also like to use natural remedies and essential oils in maintaining their health. I don't want my children to be exposed to harsh chemicals because of the adverse affects they may have on their health. Why should my Golden babies be any different? I am

beginning a series on care, health and

wellness of our Goldens, due to the many

questions people have asked. Questions

having to do with Grooming, Treats,

Vitamins & Supplements, Flea & Tick treatment, ear care, and many more. This first post will cover nutrition and supplements.

We all want to take care of our Goldens as best as possible. I'm very concerned about keeping my dogs in the best possible health.

I use good quality food and quality vitamins and supplements. Many of you have asked me about what I use, so I thought it may be good to share it with all of my owners.

For food, I prefer Nutro Ultra Large Breed Puppy or Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy until their first birthday. Then, you can switch over to the Large Breed Adult Formulas. I purchase these at Petsmart or order them online from Amazon.com or Chewy.com, where I can often buy them at discounted rates.

The supplements that I love, love, love is NuVet Plus. It's an Immune System builder and I have noticed such a considerable difference in my dogs since switching over to it. It helps reduce the risk of and heals many problems, like Allergies, Itching, Hot Spots, Arthritis, Digestive Issues, Hair Loss, Ear Infections, etc.

Many of us give our families daily vitamins to maintain good health, why would we treat our Golden babies any different?

It's not just a vitamin, it's an immune system builder with a great balance of vitamins, minerals, omega fatty acids, amino acids and high-potency antioxidants.

I really like the difference I've seen in my dog's skin and coat...imagine how well it's working on the inside! The cost is $18 a month or $55 for 3 months.

Here's the link for the Nuvet Vitamins: www.nuvet.com/65850

Order Toll-Free 1-800-474-7044

Use Code: 65850

I also make my dog's treats that help with naturally warding off fleas and ticks. (I'll include the recipe in the next blog post)

I don't like using strong chemicals with my family or dogs- who knows what affect they have on our bodies! Stay tuned for the upcoming post and give those babies hugs from their breeder-family.

I am a huge fan of what "PAWS for People" is doing with their pet therapy programs. I love their active role, using pets in the lives of people, as well as their education side. I often joke that my dogs ARE therapy dogs...they're MY therapy dogs. As a person that suffers from life-threatening illnesses, I benefit greatly from the love, devotion and companionship that my dogs proovide. It is very true that on my difficult days, they help motivate me and get me going. :)

Mental Health:

  • lifts spirits and lessens depression

  • decreases feelings of isolation and alienation

  • encourages communcation

  • provides comfort

  • increases socialization

  • reduces boredom

  • lowers anxiety

  • helps children overcome speech and emotional disorders

  • creates motivation for the client to recover faster

  • reduces loneliness

Reading: (PAWS for Reading)

  • helps children focus better

  • improves literacy skills

  • provides non-stressful, non-judgmental environment

  • increases self-confidence, reduces self-consciousness

In Physical Therapy

  • increases joint movement and improves recovery time
